PRR 6027, EF-25A, 1965 |
Description: |
Spruce Creek. Here is an original photo that I took in Spruce Creek, Pennsylvania, on 10 July 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6027, #2412, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #6027 is an EF-25A built by GM-EMD in April of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2412 is an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in October of 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. In this context, they're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train out of Enola to Altoona and points West. A small portion of State Route 45 is visible at the upper right. |

PRR 6027, EF-25A, 1966 |
Description: |
Winter Day. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in February of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6027, #6506, and #6026. All are rated at 2,500 horsepower. #6027 and #6026 are EF-25A's built by GM-EMD in April of 1965, while #6506 is a GF-25A built by General Electric in April of 1965. They've just passed under the 7th Street Bridge and are about to enter the Eastbound Receiving Yard with a fully-loaded mineral train. The venerable black water tower ~ last vestige of the Age of Steam in this part of town ~ stands silently at the right. |
