PRR 2245, EF-22, 1965 |
Description: |
Pinecroft. Here is an original photo that I took near Pinecroft, Pennsylvania, on 26 June 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2245, #2350, and #2282. All were built by GM-EMD. #2245 is an EF-22 built in May of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2350 and #2282 are EF-25's rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2350 was built in February of 1965, but #2282 was built in June of 1964. They're pulling a 95-car ore train (with N-8 cabin car #478170) to Altoona and points West. The roadway paralleling the tracks was once the right-of-way for the Altoona & Logan Valley Electric Railway's double-tracked line linking Tyrone and Altoona. The line was partially washed-out in the great St. Patrick's Day Floods of 1936 and never rebuilt. Photo taken from the Riggle's Gap Bridge. |

PRR 2282, EF-25, 1966 |
Description: |
Mid-Mountain. Here is an original photo that I took just West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, in mid-June of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2282, #2260, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #2282 and #2260 are EF-25's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2282 was built in June of 1964 while #2260 was completed one month earlier. They're pulling a merchandise freight train down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. The slope of the Horseshoe Curve's upper or western end is also visible in the distance. |
