Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in mid-May of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6513 and #6083. #6513 is a GF-25A built by General Electric in December of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower, while #6083 is an EF-30A built by GM-EMD in March of 1966 and rated at 3,000 horsepower. They're pulling a mixed-cargo freight around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. At the right is four-track Signal Bridge 2418/7. |
