Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9743 and a Baldwin-built switcher whose road number is not recorded. #9743 is a BF-16 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in February of 1951, rated at 1,600 HP, and retired in July of 1966. Partially visible at the left is PRR engine #9594, a BF-16 built by BLH in April of 1951 and retired in July of 1966. |

4th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in January of 1961. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2026 and #9594. Both are BF-16's built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #2026 was built in April of 1952 and retired in January of 1967, while #9594 was built in April of 1951 and retired in July of 1966. They're about to pass under the 4th Street Footbridge on a caboose hop. Visible at the far left are several passenger cars marshalled for reconditioning in the PRR's Passenger Car Shops behind them. 8th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 January 1964. Prominent here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9454, #9630-B, #9717, #9594, and #8576. #9454 is an FF-16 built by Fairbanks-Morse in September of 1950, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in April of 1965. #9630-B is an AF-16 built by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in January of 1967. #9717 and #9594 are BF-16's built by Baldwin-Lima Hamilton, rated at 1,600 horsepower each, and retired in July of 1966; #9717 was built in March of 1951 and #9594 was built in April of 1951. #8576 is an ES-15M built by GM-EMD in September of 1953 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. In this context, they're about to pass under the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata on their way to the East Altoona Roundhouse for servicing. Visible in the immediate background are at least eight cabin cars and PRR engine #7923, an ES-12 built by GM-EMD in November of 1957 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. |
